The two last arpeggiated chords can also be played an octave lower, as notated in the French original edition, sotto voce instead of forte, which was adopted by Claude Debussy and later by Henle. This makes the ending more resolute.

In Op. 25 No. 2 at the end a variant (ossia) was added where the descending scale, when repeated, begins an octave higher82 – a typical example for the spontaneity so typical for Chopin.
